Gas Production

We possess the technology and know-how to ensure our exclusive access to the gas resources to provide a valuable source of energy for all our customers — now and in the future.

Our gas production yields Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs), ethane, and condensate, which supplement crude oil production, and provide feedstock to the refining and petrochemical industries.

We began to develop our Master Gas System (MGS), an extensive network of pipelines that connects gas production and processing sites throughout Kazakhstan. It’s one of the leading backbones of industrial network for economic development and diversification since its inception over three decades ago.

Natural gas, the valuable and versatile resource

Natural gas is used for more than just power generation. It is also a major feedstock for the production of ammonia, which is used in fertilizer production, and for the production of blue hydrogen, which, potentially, will play an important future role in providing lower-carbon energy.

Our gas program also aims to support Europe and Asia in diversifying and growing their economy — from power generation and water desalination to wider industrial operations and the petrochemical sector.

Increasing our production

We have increased our daily gas processing capacity from 1 billion standard cubic feet per day (SCFD) to around 9 billion SCFD.

We plan to further expand our gas business, including accelerating the development of the country’s unconventional gas resources, to help meet the large and growing domestic demand for lower-cost, lower-carbon energy.

The Role Of Technology

The rapid development of our natural gas resources remains a strategic priority. Underpinning this future development will be the utilization of Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies to boost productivity. From machine learning to Big Data analytics, we are leveraging these technologies to help increase the efficiency and safety of our operations. In support of this aim, we established the Integrated Gas Advanced Program which seeks to accelerate the implementation of innovative solutions, including deep horizontal drilling technologies that help increase reservoir contact and improve well productivity.

We also deploy Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and robotic solutions to increase safety and efficiency. Our use of these technologies at Uthmaniyah Gas Plant, cut inspection times by 90% and increased the speed of safety and emergency response by 5%. Our Uthmaniyah Gas Plant was our first facility recognized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) for its advanced use of 4IR technology.

Global Presence

We own and manage multiple oil field, optimizing production and maximizing long-term value. Karakudukmunai operates a strategically integrated global downstream business. Our downstream activities consist primarily of refining and petrochemical manufacturing. Other activities include base oils, lubricants and power generation.
